A Day in Battle Creek - March 1996

The three BN units on the main.

Another westbound train was halted alongside the coal train. Now I think about it, this was likely a crew change point. In 1996 the fueling station had not yet been built on the mainline.

Back to downtown BC with an eastbound CN passing the depot and the Ralston plant. Note the pole line!

Here comes the daily Chicago - Toronto train. The third track here is just for the passenger depot.

These trains are usually hauled by a VIA F40. After 9-11, these trains received so much delay at the border, Amtrak gave up on the Canadian portion of the trip. They now turn in Port Huron and use all-Amtrak equipment.

Another look at the VIA F-40.

Alas, the power switches and signals were all out so the luckless conductor had to get out in the rain and manually flip the switch in downtown BC. And that was it for me on this day!
